This weekend, July 16th, 17th, and 18th, our very own John Allaire will be competing at the 2010 Crossfit Games held at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California.  This is a huge achievement for John.  We are very proud of him for his consistent hard work and dedication to becoming a healthier and more fit person.  Through his hard work and dedication to the Crossfit Methodology and his relentless appetite for continued improvement he has found himself, by no surprise to all of us at Crossfit Kinnick, in a position to battle this weekend for the title The Fittest Man over 50!!! John is competing in the Masters Division this year.  There will also be the Women Masters Division, Affiliate Team, and Individual Men & Women competition going on simultaneously.  Come out and support the entire Crossfit Community!

John is not only an amazing athlete but also a great guy to be around, just ask anyone at the gym.  John needs all of our support this weekend at The Home Depot Center as he goes to war against the Fittest Men in the world!  If you do not have tickets for the event this weekend, here are some links to follow.  You have a couple options.  You can purchase the 3-Day ticket for $75 plus addition fees through Ticketmaster HERE or if you cannot make the entire weekend you can purchase a single day ticket for $30 plus additional fees through Ticketmaster HERE.  You can also buy tickets at the Home Depot Box Office the day of the event.  I do not have the details for that though.  If you are unable to attend the Games this weekend the event will be streamed LIVE online at live.crossfit.com.  Due to the Crossfit Games we will be closed July 16th, 17th, and 18th.  Go out and run, squat, jump, and do some push ups!!!  If you have any questions let me know.  Let’s show John some love!  We will all be yelling for you John!

Come out and join us for a Memorial Day Weekend – WOD & BBQ this Saturday starting at 10am. Lettuce Wrap Burgers with Cheese and other Zone/Paleo-ish foods will be provided. We will also have a fun filled Partner WOD for everyone to do. We will pass out numbers when you arrive and each person will have a partner. I will announce the WOD when you arrive. Its getting close you guys.  The 2010 Crossfit Games Southwest Regional Qualifiers are less than a month away.  They are being held at the beautiful University of California, Irvine on May 8 & 9.  We will be sending 1 athlete for the Masters Division (50+), 6 athletes for the Affiliate Team Division, and 3 athletes for the Individual Competition.

The competition is going to be insane.  I encourage everyone to get a ticket and bring a friend.  Come out and support your Crossfit Kinnick athletes as they are put to the test.  The Crossfit Games are the ultimate proving grounds of the Worlds Fittest Athletes.  This is the last step in qualifying for the Crossfit Games.  The Southwest region covers all of Arizona, California, and Hawaii.  For the Individuals the top 4 finishers move on to the Games.  For the Masters the top scoring 15 men and 15 women from around the world will be advancing.  The top 8 finishing Affiliate Teams will advance to the Games.  This is a BIG DEAL.  Again I urge you all to come out and support the people who we all are battling with everyday as they are tested more heavily then ever before.  Show our athletes some love and support by coming out and cheering them on. Tickets are $50 for 2 people and children under 12 are free.  You won’t be disappointed.  The 2008 Crossfit Games were Crossfit Kinnick’s first experience in a Crossfit competition and I can speak for all who attended…It was life changing!

A Day in the Zone continues. Here is our latest video with Crossfit Kinnick trainer and Crossfit Nutrition Certified Erik Fay. In this video Erik is covering Post WOD (Workout of the Day) nutrition. He discusses the importance of replenishing your body after a workout and what we, as your trainers, recommend.

As Erik explains Post WOD meals are simple. The main points are balancing your carbohydrates and proteins as well as leaving out the fat. Fat will slow digestion which is normally what we want. But with a Post WOD meal we want your body to absorb the nutrients quickly to replenish the glycogen that was lost during your workout. We highly recommend this and have seen great results with ourselves and our top athletes through faster recovery/less soreness and better gains. If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask. The rule of thumb that we follow is if you typically eat 3 block meals then go with a 3 block protein & 3 block carb post wod meal.

We want to say Congrats from all of us at Crossfit Kinnick to Beth Guse for getting 3rd place at the 2010 Crossfit Games SoCal Sectionals @ UCLA’s Drake Stadium.  She placed 5th on the Stadium WOD with a time of 21:44, and smoked through the first part of the 2nd WOD with a time of 8:58 and the second part with a time of 8:47 to finish 4th on that event.  Everyone who watched her do her Handstand push ups was amazed at how quickly she blew through them!  The Sunday WOD was all about max efforts.  Beth finished 5th on this WOD with her highest placing in the pull up section with a max effort of 22 pull ups!  Amazing work!  The next step for Beth is the Southwest Regional on May 8th & 9th @ the University of California at Irvine.  She will be competing against all the top athletes from Hawaii, Northern California, Southern California, and Arizona for 1 of 4 spots that will be advancing to the 2010 Crossfit Games in Aromas, Ca this summer.  Wish her luck and please continue to encourage her.  If you are wondering Beth’s secret to success I would have to say it is her ability to push through the pain and not stop but even more importantly there is not one day that Beth does not come early to class and work on her weaknesses.  Keep it up Beth.  On a side note, Beth did her first kipping pull up in June 2009.  What a difference a year makes right?

Attention Everyone!  This weekend, at UCLA’s Drake Stadium, Crossfit Kinnick is sending 13 amazing athletes to the 2010 Crossfit Games SoCal Sectionals.  They will be competing against over 200 athletes for 20 men and 20 women spots to go on and compete at the CA/AZ/HI Regional in May.

LIFE CHANGING!!!!!!

On April 10th & 11th Crossfit Kinnick will be hosting the Crossfit Gymnastics Certification!!  We are very excited and honored to be hosting this amazing event!

This certification will educate you in basic gymnastic movements which in turn will allow you to progress in your CrossFit workouts.  Such skills and drills, basic or otherwise, will allow you to develop strength moves and variations in your personal training.  All of these movements are based on form and the progression toward form with strength.  Small moves will bring great rewards – you don’t rush these movements, you LEARN them!
