I grew up in Pomona CA. I am the daughter of a pastor and I have 2 brothers. One is my twin but we are absolutely nothing alike.
I have managed an Auto Body Shop for the last 7 years. Originally I was hired to do only the accounting, but I quickly became a jack-of-all-trades. In other words, I do it all just short of actual auto body repair. They’d be lost without me!
I don’t have any kids but I would love to have 3 of my own some day, maybe even a set of twins. It’s definitely a possibility because twins haven’t skipped a generation in our family yet. Even my mom is a twin!
My #1 passion is singing. I’ve been singing all my life and I recently started taking lessons again. Fashion is a very close second, so don’t be surprised if you run into me while out shopping. I also love deep sea fishing, traveling, road trips, and fine dining (total foodie!).
I have zero athletic background! I was involved in music all of my life so I never had any time (not that I would’ve been any good anyway). I played a little soccer when I was 10 or 11. CrossFit has become my sport and I’ve also taken on running to prepare for a 1/2 marathon in December.
Before I found CrossFit Kinnick I worked out at 24 Hour fitness. In typical globo gym fashion though I only made it there about once every 3 months, ha! I heard about CrossFit thru my friend Erin Monroe and Michelle Gonzales who both attended CrossFit gyms in the South Bay. They used to post about their workouts and they started looking mighty sexy and strong, so, naturally, it caught my attention. I started CrossFit Kinnick July 19, 2011 and I had a rude awakening about my fitness levels. I mean, I knew I was out of shape but all I did was complain about it (like most people). After my first class I was sore for the next couple of weeks, but I came back for more because I knew I needed it.
At first, I wasn’t too fond of CrossFit because I was intimidated by the workouts. It all changed for me though after the 2012 CrossFit Open. I have never been competitive in my life but something changed after I competed in it. I can’t really explain it, but it was an awesome feeling. Everyone cheered for me and I learned how to do movements I never thought I could do. I fell in love with CrossFit after that. It really lit a fire under me. That’s also when I decided to take the Zone Diet seriously. IT WORKS, I promise! I’ve seen amazing results.
Since July 2011 I’ve lost 15 total pounds, I’ve gained 11 pounds of lean mass, and I’ve gone from 44% to 27% in body fat (and that’s only as of June 2012!)*. I’m also completely off of band pull-ups. For the longest time I was the girl using the super thick bands for every pull-up workout. Now I’m maxing out at over 10 regular pull-ups!
I’ve made a lot of progress, but it’s only the beginning. My current goals include:
- Sub 8 min mile
- 50 double unders unbroken
- Get a muscle-up before my 30th B-Day
- To be happy, enjoy life to the fullest, push hard and never give up!
My favorite movie is Top Gun.
You can usually find Susy in the gym for the 8pm class 3x a week. You might also see her putting in a ton of extra work in preparation for Battle of the Boxes. Say what’s up and come watch her kick some butt!
